Baamonde → Sobrado dos Monxes
A stage of the Camino del Norte
The longest and most demanding stage on the Camino del Norte in Galicia, this 37.6 km challenging walk from Baamonde to Sobrado dos Monxes requires both stamina and a very early start. The 277 metres of ascent and 167 metres of descent are spread across a long, remote traverse through countryside where services are scarce for much of the day, so carrying adequate food and water is essential. The effort is repaid by the extraordinary arrival at the ancient Cistercian monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes, one of the great pilgrimage landmarks of Galicia, where pilgrims can stay within the monastery walls.
