San Juan de Ortega → Burgos
A stage of the Camino Francés
Descending 251 m over 25.6 km on the Camino Francés, this stage brings pilgrims down from the Montes de Oca foothills and through the suburban approaches of Burgos, one of the great cities of the Camino. The walking itself is unremarkable once the woodland gives way to roads and urban sprawl, but the payoff is the Gothic cathedral of Burgos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest medieval buildings in Spain. Most pilgrims allow time in the city before continuing west.
