Belorado → San Juan de Ortega
A stage of the Camino Francés
This 23.4 km Camino Francés stage is the most demanding between Burgos and Nájera, climbing 384 m through the Montes de Oca — a forested highland that feels wilder and more isolated than the open plains on either side. The path moves through dense pine and oak woodland, with few services until the tiny settlement of San Juan de Ortega at the end. That hamlet is little more than a Romanesque church and pilgrim hostel, but the quiet arrival after a long day through the trees carries its own reward.
