A stage of the Camino Francés

One of the most demanding stages on the entire Camino Francés, this 27-kilometre push climbs 819 metres from Villafranca del Bierzo into Galicia, finishing at the ancient stone hamlet of O Cebreiro perched high in the mountains. The ascent is almost uninterrupted, rising through the Valcarce valley before the final steep haul to the pass. Reaching Galicia here marks a major emotional milestone for most pilgrims.
