Baiona
Camino de Santiago stage town on Portugués Coastal
Baiona is a coastal Galician town on a sheltered bay, a popular resting point on the Coastal route as it turns north toward Vigo. It is widely remembered as the port where the caravel Pinta brought news to Europe of Columbus's voyage to the Americas, and its Monterreal fortress on the Monte Boi headland now houses a parador within its encircling walls. Pilgrims stop for the seafront promenade, the walled fortress walk, and the town's bars and restaurants, and there is a pilgrim albergue in town.
