Foncebadón → Ponferrada
A stage of the Camino Francés
This dramatic 27-kilometre stage on the Camino Francés drops more than 1,000 metres from the ridge above Foncebadón down into the valley town of Ponferrada. The day traditionally begins at the Cruz de Ferro, the Camino's iron cross where pilgrims leave a stone, before the path plunges through moorland and chestnut forest via the village of Molinaseca. Trekking poles and a careful pace are essential on this challenging descent.
