Ponferrada
Camino de Santiago stage town on Camino Francés
Ponferrada is the main town of the El Bierzo region and a major stage stop on the Camino Francés, roughly 550 km into the route from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Pilgrims arrive to a well-serviced city with plenty of accommodation, shops, and restaurants, and most pause to visit the Templar Castle (Castillo de los Templarios) that overlooks the old town. It is a natural resting point before the walk on toward Villafranca del Bierzo.
