Camino Primitivo
Beginning at Oviedo's cathedral of San Salvador, the Primitivo climbs quickly out of the Asturian valleys and stays high and remote for much of its Spanish stretch, with far fewer pilgrims than the Francés until the two routes merge near Melide. Small stage towns like Grado, Tineo, and Grandas de Salime string together long climbs and steep descents, so days are shaped as much by the terrain as by distance. Services and beds are more limited than on busier Caminos, which makes planning each stage stop worthwhile.
